Cement Manufacturing

(a) CarbonBuilt, US DOE Produce Low-Carbon Concrete from Flue Gas CO2  A multi-week test has demonstrated that carbon dioxide (CO2) from flue gas streams of natural gas- and coal-fired generating units can successfully be injected into concrete blocks to reduce carbon emissions. Read more.

Concrete, Mineral and Chemical Admixtures

(a) Choosing Right Synthetic fibres for sprayed Concrete                       Fibre-reinforced sprayed concrete is widely used for rock support, with fibres replacing conventional mesh reinforcement. It can be applied safely, fast and in a highly mechanised way. Read more.

(b) SSA Concrete Keeps Strength after 17 Years

This study was conducted on concrete using sewage sludge ash (SSA) with the aim to establish an efficient use of sewage sludge ash (SSA) as a cement replacement material. Read more.

(c) Coarse Aggregate Boosts Concrete Strength                                              Researchers in Poland applied principal component analysis to 38 concrete mixtures and found that certain mixtures had higher strength. For instance, a high compressive strength corresponded to a high content of coarse aggregate fractions and a low compressive strength corresponded to a high content of fine aggregate fractions. Read more.

(d) Heidelberg Cement Plans World's first CO2 Neutral Cement Plant in Sweden.                                                                                             Heidelberg Cement, the world's second-largest cement maker plans to turn its Swedish factory in Slite into the world's first CO2-neutral cement plant by 2030 via carbon capture technology. Read more.

(e) Precast Concrete for Manholes                                                      Manholes made from precast concrete offer several advantages for sewer systems, including the ability to place the manholes at depths of 500 feet or greater. Concrete also resists corrosion and offers watertight construction when coated with sealants during the precasting process. Readmore.

Books

(a) Mineral Admixtures in Cement and Concrete, Author: Jayant D. Bapat, CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group Books

Written for engineers, this book focuses on how to make more workable and durable concrete using mineral admixtures. For each mineral admixture, the book looks at manufacturing and processing, physical characteristics, chemical and mineralogical composition, quality control, and reported experiences. It also examines the provisions of national standards on the admixture’s addition to cement and concrete. Offering a deeper understanding of mineral admixtures, it encourages engineers to more effectively use these and other wastes in cement and concrete to support more sustainable growth of the cement and construction industry. Read More.

(b) Blissful Souls All Of Us: Author: Dr Jayant D Bapat: Publisher: CreateSpace, USA.

The Book is a result of author's quest to remain happy forever. It focuses on self-improvement through meditation. The real and original nature of self, common to all human beings, is empathic, pure and joyful. However, that ‘self’ has deviated considerably from its original nature. Meditation is a time-tested tool to reach the original nature of self. Like exercise is for the body, meditation is for the mind. Practice controlled breathing or pranayam to assist meditation. The book gives helpful tips to practice meditation for self-improvement. Blissful experiences gained during meditation are useful resolving conflicts, reducing stress, building durable personal relationships and recording improved performance at the work. Meditation and controlled breathing balance the intelligence. The exercise teaches to take a holistic view of life and life’s problems. Book is available in both print and Kindle version.
