Cement
Manufacturing
(a) LafargeHolcim Launches Carbon Capture
Project in Canada
During the first phase the partners will work on purifying the cement flue gas in preparation for CO2capture. The second phase will focus on the separation of CO2 from flue gas using a customized for cement version of Inventys’ carbon capture technology at pilot scale. As part of the final phase, the captured CO2 will be prepared for reuse and support the economical assessment and demonstration of CO2 conversion technologies onsite, such as CO2 injected concrete and fly ash. Biggest Single Pour of Concrete in Britain
Electricite de France SA has
completed the biggest single pour of concrete in Britain at the site of a new
nuclear power plant in Somerset. The utility poured 9,000 cubic meters of the
material at Hinkley Point, exceeding the amount of concrete that went into the
Shard skyscraper in London. It was reinforced by 5,000 tons of steel built into
a nest 4 meters high that will serve as the base of the first new
reactor in the U.K. since 1995. Read more.

Books
(a) Mineral
Admixtures in Cement and Concrete, Author: Jayant D. Bapat, CRC Press, Taylor
& Francis Group
Written
for engineers, this book focuses on how to make more workable and durable
concrete using mineral admixtures. For each mineral admixture, the book looks
at manufacturing and processing, physical characteristics, chemical and
mineralogical composition, quality control, and reported experiences. It also
examines the provisions of national standards on the admixture’s addition to
cement and concrete. Offering a deeper understanding of mineral admixtures, it
encourages engineers to more effectively use these and other wastes in cement
and concrete to support more sustainable growth of the cement and construction
industry. Read More.
(b) Blissful Souls All Of Us: Author: Dr Jayant D Bapat:
Publisher: CreateSpace, USA.
The Book is a
result of author's quest to remain happy forever. It focuses on
self-improvement through meditation. The real and original nature of self,
common to all human beings, is empathic, pure and joyful. However, that ‘self’
has deviated considerably from its original nature. Meditation is a time-tested
tool to reach the original nature of self. Like exercise is for the body,
meditation is for the mind. Practice controlled breathing or pranayam to assist
meditation. The book gives helpful tips to practice meditation for
self-improvement. Blissful experiences gained during meditation are useful
resolving conflicts, reducing stress, building durable personal relationships
and recording improved performance at the work. Meditation and controlled breathing
balance the intelligence. The exercise teaches to take a holistic view of life
and life’s problems. Book is available in both print and Kindle version. Visit
the link to buy/review the book.
